Second-hand sale perfect for those wedding dress bargains
Faceook has made it much harder to wear the same dress twice, says Elizabeth Kearns.
That's why the Dublin-based handbag designer says she's delighted with the bargains she picked up at the Down Syndrome Centre Buy My Dress second-hand sale last year.
Elizabeth attended the event in the RDS and snapped up three dresses which meant she was kitted out for numerous weddings with plenty of change left out of €100.
Her favourite is a heavily beaded brown calf-length "Great Gatsby looking" number with a graduated hem and cowled neckline for around €40.
Other bargains include a black maxi with a crochet-type overlay that fit like a glove for around €20 while she also got a Missoni-style dress in mixed colours for around €15.
Elizabeth says the sale was well-organised with large communal changing rooms, dresses sorted by size and fresh stocks brought out every hour so you weren't left with dross no matter what time you attended. "I had a lot of weddings to go to, but the thing with Facebook is people will have probably seen what you're wearing even if they're not there, so something like this means you can get a new outfit without massive expense," she says.
It also made for guilt-free shopping because she knew that the money was going towards a good cause.
