Sarah Burton wows PFW
The creative director showed her latest collection on the penultimate day of Paris Fashion Week yesterday. Alexander McQueen's presentations have become the ones to watch out for over the last few seasons, with the latest causing cheers within the fashion industry.
Key looks included leather harness bras, laser cut kilts and feather gowns. The palette was kept simple, with black, grey, white and red the main colours, which were reflected on the multi-coloured runway.
The aesthetic was tough and no nonsense, which WWD notes seems like a return to the days of late designer Lee McQueen's lines - Sarah has tended to stick to a more romantic feel.
Among the first looks was a model in a black leather harness, with the bra boasting thick straps which wrapped around the body. It was teamed with a pleated kilt in black and red print which almost looked like feather. Matching leggings stopped on the knee and there was a golden helmet and matching gladiators completing the look.
Perhaps more wearable was a black and white trench coat, which was full and had slim bell sleeves. From far away it looked like a polka dot print, but closer it was an abstract take on flowers. The piece was cinched with a thick silver belt which almost looked like metal.
Later on Sarah used feather to make a stand, with one monochrome piece including a miniature made of white feathers with a matching midi-length skirt.
Valentino also presented yesterday, with designers Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli inspired by the opera. This was evident in the romantic nature of the pieces, which featured intense embroidery, geometric patterns and tulle.
The label is known for high necks, pinched waists and sleeves and this season the look was still apparent but was updated, so dresses were short and the skirts fuller. One saw a nude and blue stamped pattern used on a pleated miniskirt, with full sleeves hitting mid arm. It was paired with a gold necklace and head piece, in what could be the perfect summer dress.
Paris Fashion Week comes to a close today with shows by Louis Vuitton and Hermes.
