Rocha family lights up London Fashion Week
IRISH fashion designer John Rocha looked on proudly as daughter Simone's stylish collection was unveiled at London Fashion Week.
Ever since her entrance into the fashion fold in 2010 upon graduating from the prestigious Central St Martins MA course in London, Simone's fresh and feminine take on a very boyish minimalism has been keeping fashion editors' bums on seats -- and generating plenty of editorial coverage.
The young designer already counts megastar Lady Gaga among her growing list of high-profile fans and fashion blogger Bip Ling was front row at the weekend -- as was Simone's father Rocha who had his own show three hours later.
It was Simone's fourth official catwalk season and her sheer and peekaboo layered fabrics, oversized boxy tailoring, a strict colour palette and texture clashing clearly remain her stalwarts.
Simone could almost have been accused of upstaging her famous dad, such was the pre-show hype and Twitter activity.
And fashionistas took to the Twittersphere in their droves post show to declare their love for her collection.
Her veteran Dublin-based father smiled proudly in the front row of his youngest daughter's show flanked by his wife Odette and pal Guggi.
Dublin model Laragh McCann walked out in a mirrored silver leather boyish coat which instantly became one of the 'go to' pieces.
'Those shoes' -- brogues encased in tweed with a delicious slice of neon-hued perspex above the wooden heel -- were also a hit.
Another innovation showcased and was worthy of praise was her decision to wrap Linton tweed -- a historic Scottish tweed also used by Rocha and Coco Chanel -- inside tulle.
Among those Tweeting post-show tributes to the young star designer was Lulu Kennedy who wrote: "London Fashion Week has a major star on its hands: want every single look. Precise, cool, effortless, how does she do it?? Just love her."
Her collection also got a mention in 'The New York Times' who described her show as a "standout for originality and attitude".
Three hours later across London at Somerset House, it was the turn of her father to unveil his latest collection to the sounds of The Velvet Underground and PJ Harvey.
Rocha draped his models in voluminous black dresses bringing a beautiful gloominess to the catwalk.
This season he also introduced sporty and elegant shapes in a palette of old gold, navy and olive green, a colour he has rarely worked with before.
Among the front row spectators at Rocha's show were MTV presenter Laura Whitmore and One Direction's Harry Styles.
