Pop sensation Rihanna is to star in forthcoming underwear and jeans advertising campaigns for the fashion label.

The hit-maker supreme, who has been linked romantically with a string of Hollywood stars including Ireland's Colin Farrell, has been signed up by the Italian fashion house to appear in their new campaigns for Emporio Armani Underwear and Armani Jeans.

Rihanna will appear in ads for this year's autumn and winter collection and also the 2012 campaigns. The sizzling hot ads were shot in New York by Steven Klein and are due to be released worldwide in September.

She follows in the footsteps of a Who's Who of world megastars such as David and Victoria Beckham, Rafael Nadal and Cristiano Ronaldo. The 23-year-old replaces Hollywood actress Megan Fox as the face of Emporio Armani Underwear and Armani Jeans for autumn/winter 2011-12. Fox, who previously appeared in the campaign, will continue in the Giorgio Armani beauty ads.

David and Victoria Beckham indulged in a little role play for two seasons as the face of designer Mr Giorgio Armani's underwear line, and the uplift in sales was so dramatic that David was inspired to launch his own line of 'bodywear', which is to be revealed later this year.

The fashion house released a statement confirming the fact that Riri is "the new global testimonial for Emporio Armani Underwear and Armani Jeans from autumn/winter 2011-12." Furthermore, the fashion house went on to explain the fact that Megan Fox is not being replaced by Rihanna and that we will still get to see her in the next season ad campaigns: "Fox, who previously appeared in the campaign, will continue on in the Giorgio Armani Beauty ads."

Rihanna has fronted a number of highly succesful and profitable advertising campaigns. The singer previously appeared in a campaign for Gucci in 2008 and has been a celebrity spokesperson for CoverGirl cosmetics since 2007. She is also the spokesmodel for skincare giant Nivea. The cosmetics company aligned with the 'What's My Name' chart-topper to celebrate their 100th anniversary and released a photo of her posing seductively and apparently naked.

The star has always maintained that she likes to shock people with her fashion choices. "I probably see a lot of menswear, or something extremely, extremely feminine. But I like to play with both,' she explained..

After constant speculation about the possible collaboration with the famous fashion house, Rihanna herself provided fans with a subtle clue as to what her plans are via Twitter. “U would NEVER guess what I’m doing right now!!! Hint Hint #Armani”, she tweeted, finally confirming the raging gossip which began after the singer had been seen in animated discussion with Roberta Armani.
