Even the celebrities were made to queue like the rest of us outside the Old Sorting Office on New Oxford Street, waiting for Rhianna to reveal her fashion collection for high street chain River Island which goes on sale on March 5.

There was Model-of-the-Year, Cara Delevigne and her catwalk pal Jourdan Dunn, 'Made in Chelsea' cast members Oliver Proudlock and Rosie Fortescue, all edging towards the door with the rest of us plebs, gripping our perspex disc invite.

It was the hottest ticket in town last Saturday night. The 24-year-old Bajan beauty had been busy on twitter, promising it would be "MAJAH " The paparazzi were like nervous chickens, snapping anyone who got out of a people carrier.

But the girl herself was inside, secreted away since tea time with her dresser, Mel Ottenberg, her costume designer Adam Selman with whom she worked on the collection, a posse of 16, impossibly tall models with washboard stomachs and Dubliner David Greene.

The 27-year-old stylist from Finglas won Style Wars on TV3 in 2010 and after working with Aurora boss Ian Galvin at Oasis, he moved to London where he now freelances as a stylist and buyer. However, on Saturday, he was at the centre of the action having worked on casting models for the show.

"Rhianna was really nice, very hands on, very productive and when she came in first, she  introduced herself to all the models working on the show, " said David.

Indeed, the pop princess was very much part of the process choosing the models right up to the morning of the show.

After Kate Moss's collection for Topshop and the Kardashian sisters for Dorothy Perkins, Rhianna for River Island is the latest celebrity hook up to hit the high street.

The singer has been paid an reported £800,000 for her collaboration with the River Island high street chain. It's loaded with 90s fashion references. The first drop of 45 looks from the spring collection hit stores in Ireland on March 5 and in May, the balance of the summer pieces go on sale at selected River Island stores globally and online.

Her prices average at price  €55 and the most expensive item will be a €270 limited edition leather jacket and there will be only 200 made. The highest priced non limited edition item is the leather varsity jacket at €160.

The clothes, as we saw on Saturday night, are very sexy and have Rhianna's DNA running through them. They reflect Rhianna's look, from the bare tummy cropped tops, string vests, skirts with almighty slits, thigh-high buckle boots  to a take on a spaghetti strap dress she recently wore on the red carpet.

Behind the scenes, David said Rhianna helped tweak things on the models before they went out to a three stack podium. The show was 50 minutes late starting and the audience included Molly from The Saturdays , Laura Whitmore and Angela Scanlon .

Rihanna’s signature ‘shirt tied round the waist’ pops up on jumpsuits, knee length skirts and the parkas. If we were harbouring any hopes that the 'Diamonds' singer might break into celebratory song after her quick bow on stage in a very plain Little Black Dress, we were mistaken and she was gone into the night and headed to 'The Box' nightclub with her pals Cara and Jourdan.

The collection includes high necked cropped tops (which is a bit of a contradition) really cute monochrome floral prints and there's a high cut red swimsuit which is pure Baywatch.

The 16 models showed 31 outfits in total and the audience drank in the fast paced show which featured  dungaree-style dress, hooded jumpsuit and versatile jersey pieces.

The striped shorts and dressing gown that look like boxer's robe looked cute.

There was lots of ruching in a grey jersey skirt that matches an off-the-shoulder crop top. Colours spun from yellow through the brights to black. A sheer sheath dress was ultra revealing and you'd need one hell of a toned tummy for some of those cropped tops.

A spokeswoman for River Island in Ireland said they will get the full 45 spring options in a selected number of the stores.
