Ralph Lauren thinks Britain's Prince William is "sweet".

The designer was honoured at The Royal Marsden earlier this week after making a multimillion dollar donation to the cancer hospital. The British royal hosted a special dinner for the designer, who was amazed by the lavish surroundings at the Waterloo Chamber at Windsor Castle and St. George’s Hall in England.

“This is not a film set — it’s the real thing. We’re used to the film set,” he gushed to WWD.

“And Prince William is very sweet."

Ralph and celebrities such as Cate Blanchett, Emma Watson and Benedict Cumberbatch gathered for cocktails and dinner, where William praised the fashion star's generosity. Around 150 guests attended for a meal that included steak and salmon.

The 74-year-old designer was diagnosed with a benign brain tumour in 1987 and underwent surgery to have it removed. His experience has brought him closer to victims of cancer.

“I didn’t have cancer, it was a benign tumour. I was very lucky... It’s a very emotional thing to come out of an operation. So I’ve been through it… a little bit. I know what that feels like,” he opened up recently.

Despite his health setback, Ralph hasn't slowed down and he continues to work hard in all his business ventures. The star isn't looking to retire anytime soon.

“People keep asking when I’m going to retire, and I’m like, ‘I’m only 26!’ I’m never going to retire until they ask me to," he joked.
