Raf Simons is said to be close to signing a deal with Christian Dior.

The French fashion house has been looking for a new creative director following the departure of John Galliano earlier this year.

A number of big names, such as Marc Jacobs, have been in the running. However, it’s now been claimed it is Raf who is close to clinching the coveted role.

“A deal with Simons, 43, has yet to be concluded,” WWD reports, “and sources cautioned that several key details must be worked out.”

Raf currently works at Jil Sander. It’s unknown when he would be able to leave the fashion house to work with Dior, or whether his salary has been agreed yet.

It’s thought label bosses will want the new head of Dior in place in time for the next round of Fashion Week shows in Paris next March.

In September, there was speculation Raf was leaving Jil Sander to go to work for Yves Saint Laurent. The rumours were quickly shot down, leading to refreshed comments that he may actually have been in talks with Dior at the time.

Other people to be linked to the coveted role include Alexander Wang and Jason Wu. There have been reports negotiations with Marc broke down after he requested a large salary and to bring many of his Louis Vuitton employees – he is currently creative director of the brand - with him to Dior.
