RTE presenter Mary Kennedy has spoken of her delight after being nominated for a Style Award ahead of her 60th birthday.
The ‘Nationwide’ presenter has been nominated for a VIP Style Award – 11 years after she picked up the gong.
“I am of a different age group and I do get a lot of women saying that it’s good it’s not just for the young and beautiful.
“Women who are older with different body shapes are also in the reckoning. We’re not disregarded once you get past a certain age”, she told this month’s VIP Magazine.
The host of the 1994 Eurovision won the inaugural ‘Most Stylish Woman’ award in 2003 – and has watched the event grow in the decade since.
“It was a much simpler event then, it was a lunch. There wasn’t the red carpet, but why not have a bit of glam when you’re having an occasion like this?” she said.
She also explained how she’s happier in her own skin now than when she was younger.
“It’s when you become a bit more confident and mature that you can decide for yourself what suits you best.
“I think it causes problems psychologically trying to be something you’re not”, she said.
The 2014 Peter Mark VIP Style Awards take place in Dublin’s Marker Hotel on April 25th.
