Manolo Blahnik: The shoes I love don’t sell

Manolo Blahnik has revealed most of his favourite shoe creations haven’t sold well.
The 67-year-old fashion designer and founder of his eponymous footwear brand has created some of the most beautiful high-heels of recent years, and is adored by celebrities such as Sarah Jessica Parker, Victoria Beckham and Kylie Minogue.
Strangely Manolo admits many of the designs he has loved the most during his lengthy career have seemed to be out-sold by those he’s been less fond of.
"There's a series of shoes I love very much but they didn't sell. It was always like that - the things that I adore - that are edgy - they didn't seem to perform," he revealed at Central Saint Martins in London last night.
Despite his creations showcasing his boundless creativity and artistic prowess, Manolo also confessed he doesn’t consider himself to be an artist. The shoe guru actually thinks of himself as more of a scientist. Manolo enjoys being in the factory working on his pieces as it has a calming influence on him.
"I'm a technician, maybe. I'm not an artist. I'm always an outsider [in fashion]. I like to be in the factory - it feels so peaceful, being out of the hulabaloo," he revealed.
