Madonna couldn’t wear Elizabeth Taylor’s diamond earrings for her Super Bowl performance because they were "too heavy".
The Queen of Pop had reportedly planned to accessorise her stage costume with the precious $1million jewels once owned by the Hollywood icon.
However, the songstress changed her mind at the last minute because they weren’t practical to dance in, a source told the New York Post.
Instead, Madonna teamed her glam gladiator outfit with a pair of white gold and diamond earrings from Bulgari.
The 53-year-old star wowed the audience and TV viewers of Sunday’s Super Bowl game with an energetic routine that saw her performing high-kicks and backflips to a 12-minute medley of her hits.
The music icon had been lent the late Taylor’s Marina B tasselled earrings, which were given to the Hollywood diva by her lover Richard Burton. The current owners had won the invaluable accessories at a recent Christies auction that saw the actress’ belongings being sold.
Tom Cruise was reportedly planning to snap up some rare jewellery for daughter Suri, five, in the four-day event.
