Sometimes the older styles are the best, and that’s certainly the case when it comes to fashion’s newest skirt trend. Lace versions are set to do big business again this year, meaning those who were clever enough to invest when they hit stores last year can do a quick bit of recycling and sport a bang on-trend look for a fraction of the price.

Last time, lace skirts were all about being feminine. They were dainty and flowy, and designed to give women the world over a whimsical air.

This season, they have been toughened up and are all about sex appeal.

The new look sees the piece sitting on the waist, paired with an on-trend blouse tucked in if at all possible.

Length is also important, with the ideal skirt length being mid thigh. Too short and you will look dated, while too long can make even the trendiest woman appear frumpy.

While the style elite such as Natalie Imbruglia, Alexa Chung and Taylor Swift have been choosing to show off their tanned and toned legs in lace skirts, the look works just as well with a pair of thick black tights.

Just steer clear of teaming with another of the season’s hottest trends, over-the-knee boots, as more than one stand-out piece will look too much.

Lace skirts aren’t just for nights out – in the day, wearing loafers and a chunky knit or fun T-shirt and leather jacket will work well.

Night-time looks can be more exciting, try wearing a black version with a sheer blouse and bright red lips for maximum sex appeal.

If you’re really loving the lace look experiment with a dress made out of the pretty fabric, matched with a thin belt your look will be the envy of everyone else.
