SHE may be a royal favourite, counting Kate Middleton and her sister Pippa as big fans, but fashion designer Orla Kiely is a Dub at heart.

Orla's autumn-winter 2013 collection was the undoubted star of the Arnotts fashion press preview.

This week, her clothes go on sale at the Henry Street store where Orla used to buy her school uniform when she was growing up in Shankill.

Ms Kiely opened the Arnotts breakfast press show at the Morrison Hotel and sparked an immediate reaction with her daisy-print devore shorts that looked like flock wallpaper, a 'salt and pepper' boucle skirt with scalloped hemline twinned with sultry angora jumper, and a faux-fur coat that looked like expensive mink.

If the fashion press hadn't had their first morning coffee yet, the sight of Orla's pared-back pieces quickly woke them up to the reality that there is much more to this genius than leaf-print handbags.

This is the first time that Orla's fashion and furniture collection has been stocked extensively in a major Irish store. Her teddy bear, faux-fur coat is pricey at €2,680 but the knit jumper is more reasonable at €280.

Statement buttons are a feature on the coats and dress from the luxury British brand Goat, which was a favourite with Victoria Beckham before she started designing her own clothes.

The lightweight Italian wool crepes in dynamic shades of tomato red and lagoon blue were expertly cut into demure, ladylike styles. A high-necked shift dress with sleeves won over fans and a tunic dress (€499) with matching, collarless coat (€710) underlined the seductive power of sophisticated tailoring.
