It's in the jeans

Curvy Opt for a straight or bootcut jean to even out your shape. The width at the end will balance out your figure. Opt for darker denim to streamline your shape. Bootcut jeans, €265, 7 For All Mankind, at all BT2 and Brown Thomas stores; blazer, €380, Diane Von Furstenberg, at BT2 Dundrum; top, €130, The Kooples, at BT2 Dundrum, and shoes, €225, Kurt Geiger London, at all BT2 stores
Petite - To flatter your petite frame, try to avoid a wider-end jean. Straight and skinny-leg jeans suit best. Heels add length, and this season's neon trend works well for small girls. Neon jeans, €275, J Brand, at all BT2 and Brown Thomas stores; shirt, €115, Maison Scotch, at BT2 Grafton Street and Dundrum, and shoes, €225, Kurt Geiger London, at all BT2 stores
Athletic: Lucky you, you can wear any style of denim, so have fun and experiment with faded washes and this season's boyfriend-fit jeans. 'Paris' crop jeans, €225, MiH, at BT2 Grafton Street; jacket, €495, MSGM, at BT2 Grafton Street and Dundrum; shirt, €120, Karl by Karl Lagerfield, at BT2 Grafton Street and Dundrum, and shoes, €670, Valentino, at Brown Thomas Dublin
Long legs - Look for jeans with an extended inseam and a mid-rise to give the illusion of extra hip length and make the most of your shape. Skinny jeans also work well for tall women, so jeggings are a comfortable option. Dark jeans will make your legs look longer, so opt for this season's must-have kitten heel to offset the look. Blue skinny jeans, €230, Victoria Beckham, at BT2 Grafton Street and Dundrum, and Brown Thomas Cork; shirt, €76, JW Anderson x Topshop, at all BT2 stores, and shoes, €670, Valentino, at Brown Thomas Dublin

Five girls, five different body types - find out which jeans are the best for each shape

10 things to remember when buying jeans:

1 Don't attempt to buy jeans when you are tired, or not in the mood for trying them on.

2 Find a dressing room with three-way mirrors so that you can view them from all angles -- especially from the back.

3 The trick here is all about playing with proportions, so tall girls should seek out mid to low-rise jeans, while petites can go for a high-rise to play up their waist.

4 Don't wear tights, especially if you are buying stretch denims, because it slows down the whole process of peeling them off and on.

5 Curvy girls look great in skinny jeans but should opt for high waists, which have the effect of slimming the hips.

6 Hang-ups about thick thighs? Your answer lies in skinny or straight jeans. You want to achieve the opposite effect of bootcuts, so avoid flares at all costs because they repeat the width of a thick thigh below the knee.

7 Pale-blue denims are very Californian, but darker-wash denims are much more flattering and slimming -- especially for anyone who is trying to hide their tummy.

8 Girls with boyish, flat derrières should look to back pockets to help create the illusion of a bum -- the higher the pocket, the better. And it goes without saying that if you have a big bum, embellished pockets that shout 'look at me' are a no-no.

9 Avoid attention-grabbing front pockets if you are conscious about your hips.

10  Petite girls look great in skinnies, especially the bright corals around this summer. However, you should avoid baggy styles that swamp the body.
