Italian design house Missoni to launch affordable line
Missoni is to launch a lower-priced line.
The Italian fashion house collaborated with US retailer Target last year, with the pairing so successful the shop's website crashed.
Margherita Missoni has now confirmed her family took notice of the public demand for affordable versions of its clothes. In a new interview she says the label is looking in to creating a more affordable line.
Speaking to The Wall Street Journal, Margherita explained the point is to make the colourful knitwear designs it is best known for accessible for everyone.
"The strategy ... isn't complete, but it is likely to be launched alongside a revamped online-sales site. She declined to specify the timing or a name for the line," reports the publication.
Further details of the proposal aren't clear, although Margherita admitted it's unlikely the line will be as cheap as the Target offering.
Missoni is renowned for spicing up traditional knitwear by making it figure-hugging and fun. Bold colours are teamed with patterns, with the label's chevron design the most iconic.
Margherita isn't sure the famous print will make it into the new collection.
"I don't think I could put the zigzag on that," she said.
Instead, the range will likely focus on "basics with a twist". A new website is also being planned to coincide with the launch.
