Introducing Emelia Clarke: Style star
The Game of Thrones actress is stealing the style spotlight
Unless you've been hiding under a rock of late, you won't have failed to notice that epic fantasy drama Game of Thrones is, well, kind of a big deal. You probably also won't have failed to notice Emilia Clarke, the devastatingly beautiful British actress who plays Daenerys Targaryen, the platinum-tressed 'Mother of Dragons'.
But, being the fashion freaks that we are, our beady eyes have been trained less on her character's storyline and more on real-life Emilia's growing wardrobe, which is of equally as epic proportions for a rising starlet.
Whether it's an appearance to promote GOT or a press call for the Broadway production of Breakfast At Tiffany's , in which she's just starred as Holly Golightly, her sartorial choices have been as impeccable as her chocolate mane has been groomed. From Dolce to Dior and Victoria Beckham, the 25-year-old has been pulling off catwalk looks left and right and centre with the ease of a seasoned professional. And it's all thanks to super stylist Kate Young, the Oxford-educated, New York-based dresser extraordinaire behind the looks of Michelle Williams and Natalie Portman. Voted Hollywood's most powerful stylist of 2012, Young has been working with Emilia since she made the move from the UK to the US to pursue her Broadway dreams.
"Emilia's got a really feminine, fun sense of style. She looks great in clothes, but I especially love things that have a little wit on her," the stylist tells us of her choices for Clarke. "I don't want to put her in clothes that make her seem older than she is - I want her to feel put together and to wear serious designers without it feeling too serious."
Young's favourite look so far is the blue Victoria Beckham dress Emilia wore to attend the season three premiere of Games of Thrones in LA. "I love that this is so body conscious but also an unexpected silhouette and sort of architectural. It was important that her hair be so shiny and slick so that the look stayed modern and didn't get too sexy," says Young. She's also got a soft spot for the spring/summer 2012 Altuzarra look the actress sported for a press conference, and says "there's something about Emilia that just feels right in Dolce & Gabbana."
The pair have been working on Emilia's off-duty style too, which is something the Brit finds "fun", and - rather annoyingly - she looks just as good dressed down and she does dressed up.
It would be criminal not to mention her beauty, too. With large green eyes, milky skin, a healthy set of Delevingne-esque brows and, of course, a mane of glossy chocolate-brown locks - which are bundled under a platinum wig for her role as Daenerys - she was practically made to fill Audrey Hepburn's shoes.
Her style, says Young, will continue to evolve with her career, which looks to go stratospheric. Oh, and just in case you want to put on any what-what-will-she-wear-to-the-Oscars? bets, if Kate has her way it'll be spectacular Jason Wu.
