Inspired Choices: Irish talent on the high street
Ever wondered who designs your favourite coat or dress and where they got their inspiration?
Thumbing through the pieces at the River Island press day, it was hard not to have a crush on the gold foil and fur coat, a total glamazon that, I'm happy to say, will cost €107 when it arrives in store next week.
Yes, your diary needs to be ringed for November 5, the day this lightweight faux-fur number hits the shop rails, because it is totally yummy for the party season, weekend wear or plain cheering you up on a grey winter work day.
The genius behind it is Clarisse Walsh (23) from Letterkenny, who is barely one step up on the high-street fashion ladder and is showing huge potential. Clarisse won the National College of Art and Design (NCAD)/River Island bursary last year and was kept on by the high-street chain because of her obvious creativity.
She is the fourth NCAD graduate to intern with River Island and be kept on.
Lucy Moller is now designing River Island's vintage-feel Chelsea Girl range, while Sile O'Shea, also from Donegal, has come up with a really nice edge-to-edge tweedy jacket with embellished beaded sleeves, which will be out in store on December 3 -- just in time for the party season.
Meanwhile, Ann-Marie Rigney from Dublin is the designer behind the Love jumper on p24.
What's not to love about it?
