'I'm glad mum is fashionable, not frumpy'
Brides-to-be Sharlene Giles (26) and mum June (53) from Tallaght, Dublin, share jeans as well as genes -- and accounts assistant Sharlene says she loves having a mum who's fashionable, not frumpy.
"Mum and I are both petite and have identical taste in fashion. We go shopping together every Saturday and often reach for the same top or dress.
"I've no problem with my mum wearing the same clothes as me, so long as it's not at the same time!
"Growing up, she always encouraged me to wear whatever I wanted so long as it suited my shape. And now, I feel the same way when it comes to her wardrobe.
"Mum looks much younger than she is, so I think she should show that off. She loves getting my advice on outfits -- and likewise, she helped me choose my wedding dress. Mum's wearing a cute knee-length shift dress to give me away on my wedding day in December and a cream Fifties-style dress for her own big day next July.
"There's no way I'd let her wear a frumpy 'Mother-of-the-bride' suit and hat -- and I know she wouldn't want that anyway. Just because you reach a certain age, doesn't mean you have to suddenly start dressing like an old lady.
"I've learned everything I know about fashion from my mum -- and hope to have a daughter of my own to pass all that on to some day. If I'm half as glam as my mum at 50, I'll be happy!"
