How to wear: the leather look

Leather was one of the big catwalk trends for AW11.
We saw it at Fashion East and Jean-Pierre Braganza, and on a cigarette puffing Kate Moss at Louis Vuitton.
As the look is somewhere between fetish wear and the Fonz, we did wonder how the high street might interpret the trend for those of us with winter wardrobes who are aren't dominatrixes. The answer was pleather.
As with most things catwalk getting the real thing is expensive.
Polyester made to look like leather is a good compromise. On the high street there are some great finds to be had and Zara, New Look and Pennys are working the trend well. Look out for leather-look shirts, body con dresses and masculine shorts.
Easy to wear and figure forgiving, balance pleather skirts with sheer blouses and team jackets with feminine fabrics. If you have fallen in love with a co-worker who dresses like Danny Zucco and simply must wear pleather at the office, try a statement belt in shiny PVC.
Otherwise, keep it for a night out with the girls.
