Designers have gone all out this season with super-sized necklaces.

The message is 'the bigger, the bolder and the blinger, the better'!

Bottega Veneta, Lanvin, Holly Fulton and Dolce & Gabanna all got in on the action, offering up whip-lash inducing neckpieces that take centre stage in any outfit.

The best way to wear a statement piece is to pair it against a basic background - a top or dress in a simple shape and solid colour.

Otherwise wear with a deep V-neck or an unbuttoned shirt to allow the necklace to shine.

You don’t have to spend a fortune - Awear, Pennys, River Island and Topshop all have fantastic versions. If you’re strapped for cash, you can even create your own by layering a bunch of regular sized necklaces to create a statement. Check charity stores for old gold and tarnished torques. I picked one up for €3 a few years back and it’s been admired ever since.

If the neck cuff look doesn’t appeal to you, go for long, layered necklaces with embellishment and oversized baubles. Look to Mary Kate Olsen for inspiration and you won’t go too far wrong.
