How to Wear ...

Prepare to jump for joy (and say goodbye to bruised and battered feet) as the stiletto takes a backseat for Spring/Summer 2014.
Yes that's right, flats are having a moment. From sliders to flatforms, gladiators to 'grandals', wearable footwear takes its place in the fashion spotlight. Admittedly words like 'support', 'arches' and 'foot-bed' may not be the most glamorous in the fashion lexicon but this year it's all about comfort and practicality.
Birkenstock, a brand more synonymous with comfort over style, have been dubbed the sandal of the season. Even clean-cut preppy retailer J.Crew are stocking the German brand in exclusive colours and claiming credit for their revival. Whether that's true or not, there's no denying that more functional footwear is back. Marc Jacobs, JW Anderson, Prada and Alexander McQueen all sent models down the runways in flat sandals with thick straps and all manner of buckle fastenings.
If you're slightly horrified of this trend, fear not as there are some gorgeous gladiator styles and gem-encrusted cross-over strap detail beauties that bridge the gap between plain ugly and something a little more elegant. When it comes to styling, wear with anything from denim cut-offs, crop tops or flowing 70s-style maxi dresses.
