The maxi skirt is one of those trends that like it or not has gone from beach wear to daywear in the space of a season. Marc Jacobs, Louis Vuitton, Dries van Noten and more used the maxi skirt as the base for their most glamorous looks. But it’s not all about ball gowns and evening wear, the maxi has been brought back to breath life into the most mundane of wardrobe staples.
While some people abhor the idea of shrouding their frames in acres of fabric others find the maxi a dream to wear not least for it’s comfort and versatility. So how do you wear it?
In your 20’s…
Indulge in a sequinned maxi but don’t just put it away until Christmas. Pair your with an Aran sweater or a sporty grey sweatshirt for the perfect glamorous grunge look. River Island have a beautiful gold one that’s as timeless as it is trendy!
In your 30’s…
Show off your curves in a version that’s slightly fitted. Team a slinky black maxi with some classic boots and a deep v neck t-shirt for a sophisticated finish. This is a subtle way to tap into the minialist trend but keeps it feminine too.
In your 40’s…
For a laid back daytime take on this trend try a military version. Wear cinched at the waist to show off your shape. Try a wrap cardigan to offset the volume on the bottom half. Perfect for those colder days.
