How to Wear: Leather

If there's one thing I love about autumn it’s the re-emergence of all things leather. Givenchy kicked it off a couple of seasons ago and for AW10 there seems to be no shortage of leather on the catwalks. From Alexander Wang to Christopher Kane, Burberry and Celine, every designer has used it to varying degrees.
With skirts and trousers, keep it sleek and clean, less is more - look for A-lines and slim fit pants. Jackets range from bikers to trenches and boots go from ankle high to thigh high. This is one trend that rears is fabulous head season after season - go all in or dip your toes depending on your preference.
For the younger fashionista, try a leather skirt -Topshop have a great one at the moment. By day, team with a slouchy knit for a grunge-glamour feel. At night, add an oversized T-shirt, ankle boots and socks.
For a more sophisticated take on the trend, try some black leather trousers. H&M have some sleek enough to wear day or night. Pair with a minimalist top and a blazer for the ultimate chic look or pop on a classic trench for a twist.
Although great in theory, a leather skirt or trousers won’t work for everyone. The leather trench available in Oasis is perfect for the more conservative shopper. Team with trousers and wear belted to minimize your waist. Alternatively, Next have an amazing camel leather-look T-shirt that would be great teamed with smart pants that would impress even Phoebe Philo.
