From chunky cable-knit jumpers to delicate cardigans, Holly White scoured the high street to find her knitwear to suit every budget.

Knitwear is synonymous with the autumn-winter season.

Stay on trend as the weather cools – no need to look as if you’ve raided gran’s wardrobe.

Holly's fave: Draped

Of all the looks, this is my favourite. It mixes a brightly coloured top with navy jeans and nude shoes — and it all worked very well.

I loved the draping effect of the top. It felt a little unstructured and slightly lopsided yet this added to its interest and charm.

Loved the colour so it’s a keeper.

Wrap up

I wrapped this around me and it felt instantly cosy.

For a more streamlined look, a chunky black belt would give you a great silhouette.

This piece of knitwear is pure comfort.

The skirt is fabulous fire-engine red and it makes a real statement.

Secretary

This look is sexy secretary meets country chic, but watch out because proportion is key.

If the skirt was six inches longer it would look horrendous. This skirt is a lovely, reasonable foray into one of this season’s big trends — kilts.

I loved the primness of the round-neck, cable cardigan, but if it was any baggier, I would look seriously frumpy.

Pretty

This is one of the most interesting skirts I’ve seen for a long time.

With braces attached and a high waist, it has a tuxedo-like appeal.

The wrap cardigan is a luxurious cotton-silk mix. It’s light and perfect for the current inbetween weather.

Classic

This is a classic piece of knitwear that could double as a light jacket for autumn if bought a couple of sizes bigger.

Remember: cotton knitwear, if hung when wet, can stretch beyond belief, so for proper maintenance get all the water out and dry it flat.

I liked the pleated skirt; it has a schoolgirl appeal.
