IRISH fashion queen Orla Kiely was the designer of choice for 'Granny Carole' as the Middletons arrived in London to see their first grandchild.

Hundreds of millions of TV viewers watched as Kate's mum, Carole (58), arrived in a £330 (€380) pebble hue tea dress from Orla's collection.

Kate may have had a boy, but Carole's dress featured a 'dancing girls' print. She accessorised the full skirted dress with cream shoes and handbag.

Grannies' minds think alike it seems, because cream shoes and matching handbag combo was exactly the same look Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, chose to wear with her white silk frilled dress when she arrived with Prince Charles to visit the royal baby two hours later.

Kate and Pippa Middleton – and now their mum – are regularly seen wearing classic styles with a twist from Dublin-born Orla, who started off her career making hats and handbags.

Orla and her husband, Dermott Rowan, who comes from Monkstown, Co Dublin, are normally tight-lipped when it comes to discussing their royal customer or its impact on sales. Kate's appearance in a 'birdie' print brown coat dress in February triggered a meltdown on Kiely's website.

Carole is a keen fashion follower and has been photographed wearing clothes by Dublin-born designer Paul Costelloe – for whom Orla Kiely once worked.

Baby-blue was the colour proud parents William and Kate chose to wear, as they presented their son to the press at 7.15pm.

Kate's powder blue Jenny Packham polka-dot dress with loose belt showed off her post-baby figure while her husband wore a pale blue shirt.

Kate looked radiant as she walked out to meet a phalanx of photographers wearing her go-to favourite shoes, the LK Bennett Maddox wedge in cream.
