Going for gold at Oscar night
HOLLYWOOD’S biggest stars shone on the red carpet last night ahead of the Oscar ceremony. Golden dresses were a firm favourite with Tinseltown’s leading ladies, with Cameron Diaz, Sandra Bullock, Sarah Jessica Parker and Miley Cyrus all opting for statuesque gowns with a glamorous metallic sheen.
‘Avatar’ director James Cameron, whose record-breaking movie is up for nine Oscars, was one of the first to brave the cameras. In an unusual twist to the 82nd Academy Awards, he is vying with his ex-wife for the prize of Best Director and he told of his apprehension before the winner's envelope is opened.
Cameron said: “I think you're apprehensive right before they're opening the envelope - there is a chance you might have to go up and make a fool of (yourself) in front of a million people.”
Best Actress hopeful Sandra Bullock was certainly dressed the part as she arrived on the red carpet. Fashion commentators noted that her gleaming, gold, slimfitting leaf-pattern gown seemed fashioned after the Oscar statuette itself.
