Get the look: Teodora Sutra
Top model Teodora's icy-blonde looks are perfectly suited to this sort of northern-European minimalism, but her outfit demonstrates a good way into winter dressing for all of us.
A good black winter coat, as seen here, can lift simple jeans and a shirt into something more stylish, and it will also work with dressier ensembles. The three basics she has paired it with - a crisp white shirt, properly dark black jeans, and black ankle boots - are the kind of thing that should be examined around this time of year to see if your current collection needs to be updated with fresh, non-faded versions.
Question: I love all the thigh-high boots that are around this season, but I'm concerned about looking a bit 'Julia-Roberts in Pretty Woman' tacky in them. Can you please advise?
Reply: There are two things to avoid when you're buying thigh-high boots, or over-the-knees as we prefer to call them, if only to remove the hooker element. Give any sort of thin or stiletto-type heels a miss. You're already essentially wearing stockings in the form of boots. Also, avoid anything that doesn't hug the leg, or you'll look like you're wearing pirate boots. Keep the heel low; a chunky, stacked heel is ideal. Or a flat heel. For flat, see River Island. It has a gorgeous vaguely equestrian pair, in brown suede or in black leather, with an elasticated panel, €120. For something with a heel, River Island has a gorgeous pair of suede-look, over-the-knees with a thick heel, in grey or in black, €85. Penneys has something similar in grey; black; light brown; and maroon, €28.
