Get the look: Majella O'Donnell
At this time of year, it's tempting to give up and just spend the next few weeks draped in black, until you shed the extra Christmas poundage and spring is somewhere in sight.
This casual look from Majella O'Donnell is a good option with which to get oneself out of that rut. A brown leather tote and brown riding boots are always good investments.
And this cosy cardigan makes a great weekend alternative for days when you're running errands and are in and out of air-conditioned spaces, and don't actually need a heavy winter coat.
I am looking for outfits that will suit for nights out. I'm an 18-year-old student, so I have a tight budget, and I'm a size 16-18. I don't want to wear a tight dress as I am insecure about my lower stomach area. I would love a short, skater-style dress. I'm open to any other suggestions about outfits to wear out! Thanks for your help.
Reply: We would urge you to avoid the skater-style dress, as it is generally quite unflattering, and speaks to a sort of babyish, cheerleader style that is beneath us all. Having said that, New Look has quite a few skater-style dresses we approve of, starting at around €22.99. New Look's versions work because they are either black; or they fall almost to the knee, rather than barely covering the bum; or are in a stiff, weighty fabric that makes them look sort of expensive.
Way cooler, though, is a jumpsuit. You'll stand out from all your peers in a good way; it's possible to find one to suit every shape, and most jumpsuits work well dressed up with heels, or worn casually with flats. See Mango for a good selection. For God's sake, though, avoid playsuits.
