I want to buy evening shorts for the last days of summer but I'm wondering will I get my wear for them in winter or will they have gone out of fashion?

Shorts will definitely still be on trend for A/W '10. Leggy lovelies including Gwyneth Paltrow, Olivia Palermo and Blake Lively have all been spied stepping out in chic tailored ones.

A classic black tailored pair will always look stylish. Wear with a simple white shirt and trophy jacket combo -- a sparkly jacket will add a touch of glamour for night time -- then come winter simply layer up with black opaques and black closed-toe stilettos or ankle boots.

Leather shorts are also huge for winter and River Island, Whistles and Tommy Hilfiger all have excellent offerings. Wear them by day layered with tights, boots and a knitted slouchy cardi and vest, or add a mannish camel coat. You could get creative and accessorise your shorts with a cape and boots.

By night it's all about playing with textures so off-set the heaviness of the leather by wearing them with a flimsy silk, lace or chiffon blouse.

Denim shorts are still hot but to be really on-trend choose a stormy grey shade and rock them by day with over-the-knee boots and a cool boho-style jacket and a statement scarf duet. For evening, apply the same rules as for the black shorts.

So, get shorty!
