The design team at French luxury brand Balenciaga obviously don't shop at IKEA.

Their new blue leather oversize tote looks remarkably like the Swedish lifestyle brand's big blue shopping bag.

They both rock the same shade of blue, are similarly shaped and sized.  The only difference is the material - leather versus something shiny crinkly - and the price.

And what a difference it is - Balenciaga's bag costs €2000 while IKEA's costs just 99c.

Usually it's high street brands feeling the heat for copying designer threads, but in this case the luxury brand could be accused of ripping off IKEA's design.

Balenciaga's designer Demna Gvasalia may well have known exactly what he was doing, however.

Marc Jacobs did something similar with those canvas bags your granny uses - he turned them into luxury totes.

Balenciaga has yet to comment on the bag, although they probably don't need to worry as IKEA has issued a statement and it seems they're a bit flattered.

A spokesperson told Today, "We are deeply flattered that the Balenciaga tote bag resembles the Ikea iconic sustainable blue bag for 99 cents. Nothing beats the versatility of a great big blue bag!"
