Tyra Banks says she's responsible for Gigi Hadid and Kendall Jenner's successful modelling careers
Legendary supermodel Tyra Banks thinks she had more than a little something to do with the successful careers of one of the world's hottest models.
As Gigi Hadid continues her meteoric rise to the top of the international fashion game, she has admitted to being targeted by body bullies for not being as super skinny as some of her peers.
But with campaigns for Versace and Balmain and four Vogue covers this year, whatever Gigi is doing seems to be working. And one woman who believes she has a role to play in her rising star is Banks.
The former Victoria's Secret Angel said her show America's Next Top Model, which is calling it a day after 22 seasons, opened doors for models that didn't fit the mould - the mould being 6'0" tall and a size zero.
"[The show] has opened up the world to accepting reality television stars as models."
"If you think about Kendall and Kylie [Jenner]—people think Kylie's not a model, but I think she's a model—and Gigi [Hadid] and all of these girls from reality television," she told Entertainment Weekly.
"I think Top Model knocked the doors down for that to be okay in the high fashion world."
Both models and best friends made their debut on the Victoria's Secret runway this year and have tried to distance themselves from their famous families in a bid to be taken more seriously.
"People didn't want to take a chance on me, I think because I was sort of known," Kendall previously said. "They were a little bit on the fence about it. Some people might think that what I've done before made it easier for me to get jobs, but it was actually a disadvantage. I had to work even harder."
