From desert to Dublin. Images from this month's Coachella music festival in the Palm Springs desert whetted our appetites for cool, stylish clothes for the holiday season.

And yesterday, in the very urban setting of Penneys in Dublin's Mary Street, the Irish-run brand rolled out its high summer offerings with a dusky, desert feel.

The pieces hummed with a sophisticated 1970s nostalgia and looked like they had been freshly shipped from the Californian festival - regarded by some the ultimate fashion zeitgeist- before the Ibiza beach scene kicks off.

However, the reality is that some of the colourful, textured pieces have been on the Penneys shop rails before the Jenner girls, Kendall and Kylie, and a clutch of American It Girls were snapped in a plethora of similar looks.

Trends range from lace trimmed, super short denim shorts, rich tan accessories, bold laced to the knee gladiator flats and bejewelled flatforms sandals.

The Penneys buying team had their crystal ball tuned in to the right style channel because their high summer buys tick the key trend boxes - starting with rich textures, patterns and a myriad of friendship bracelets.

Kaftans The colour palette oscillates between terracotta and blush tones from the desert to an eye-popping china blue that prompts memories of lazy days in the Ibiza surf.

Off-the-shoulder, embroidered tops are like a step back in time to the 1970s and the attention to detail in the sizzling summer collection is praiseworthy -from the ethnic embroideries, textural beading and swaying fringing to the pom-pom tassel trims, which featured on designer catwalk pieces costing infinitely more than these fast-fashion buys.

Beach looks include exotic kaftans, and make a splash with tie-dye bikinis and cover-ups or one pieces in ombre prints.

Flip-flops aren't the only shoe style shaking on the sand this summer, Penneys predicts, so watch out for over-the-top platforms in tropical prints.
