After twelve years, the Next Top Model franchise will crown its first ever transgender winner.

Loiza Lamers (20), won Holland's Next Top Model (HNTM) this year, in the show's eighth season.

Lamers announced that she had undergone sex re-assignment surgery when she was named one of the show's thirteen finalists.

She is not the first transgender woman to compete in the NTM franchise but she is the first to take home the crown.

Mashable report that the first transgender contestant was in cycle 11 of America's Next Top Model.

Holland's Next Top Model looks set to continue despite the cancellation of ANTM in the US.
