Meet Ashley Graham - Sports Illustrated's first ever plus size swimsuit model
Ashley Graham is "so honoured" to be the first plus-size model to feature in Sports Illustrated's Swimsuit Issue.
Every year the magazine produces a special issue that focuses on a series of stunning girls in bikinis and swimming costumes.
Now it's been announced Ashley, who is a dress size 16, has made the cut. She appears in an advert for company SwimsuitsForAll, wearing a sexy black bikini and posing proudly with the hashtag #CurvesInBikinis beside her.
"Secret's out!! So honored to be the face of #CurvesInBikinis for @swimsuitsforall! Can't wait for the ad's debut in the @SI_Swimsuit issue! by @nomadrj by @Vincent_Longo by @sinavelke by @the_line_up @tobias.lewis #beautybeyondsize #sexystateomind #lovetheskinyourein #curvesfordays #ashleygraham (sic)," she posted on Instagram, alongside a picture of the campaign.
The revolutionary move has made many fans very happy, with followers quickly tweeting Ashley their support. And the stunning brunette sees absolutely no grounds for curvier girls to be missing from publications such as this.
“I know my curves are sexy and I want everyone else to know that theirs are too. There is no reason to hide and every reason to flaunt,” she said in a press release. “The world is ready for more curves in bikinis.”
Sports Illustrated is famed for using super-svelte models in the magazine and Hannah Davis was confirmed on Wednesday as the lucky lady to land the prestigious front cover.
Kate Upton appeared on the front twice in a row in 2012 and 2013, mixing things up a little bit with her slightly curvier figure.
“I think we have a long way to go, but we’re headed in the right direction,” Ashley reasoned to The Huffington Post.
“It’s not going to be one moment, but when we see the consistency of curvy girls on the runway and on magazine covers, that will be the real benchmark.”
