First Look: Irish designer Joanne Hynes launches capsule collection with Dunnes Stores
Dunnes Stores have just secured a major coup with their latest collection.
Irish designer Joanne Hynes, whose pieces regularly feature in British Vogue and boasts an army of celebrity fans, is the latest homegrown couturier to launch a collaboration with the store.
Dunnes already has Paul Costelloe, Lennon Courtney and Paul Galvin among its roster of designers, but landing Hynes has added some edge to the traditional shopping outlet.
Her debut Autumn/Winter collection drops today in six select stores - Grafton Street, Stephen’s Green, Cornelscourt, Liffey Valley, Patrick Street, Eyre Square and online - and will feature her signature eclectic style, including made to order perspex earrings, metallics and statement necklaces in a 100-strong collection.
"Each piece is unique, it's got its own talking point," she told the Sunday Independent.
"It's about it being really special: the pom-pom coat, the velvet bomber, the leathers, the knitwear. They're all strong and stand on their own, as well as within the collection."
Hynes previously collaborated with Topshop and is working on an accessories line with Harvey Nichols and counts actress Amy Huberman and Girls Aloud singer Nicola Roberts among her fans.
"As a child we were raised wearing Dunnes Stores," she said. "I have such magical memories of trips to the Terryland store in Galway, particularly on Christmas Eve with my mother and brother.
"It is such an important part of Irish society; the brand is going through a major transformation currently, embracing newness and innovation so it is perfect timing for me as a designer to be welcomed into the company and to be given the autonomy to bring the quintessential Joanne Hynes look and DNA to the store and to the customer. This is a true Joanne Hynes collection, and I am immensely proud of it."
