Dress for yourself, or you won't have the confidence in your eyes- such was the advice from milliner and Best Dressed Lady finalist Carol Kennelly from Co Kerry.
As chief sartorial judge, Made in Chelsea's stylish star Millie Mackintosh picked Limerick native Catriona Hanley as the most stylish lady on the day.
Catriona, a nurse in the oncology department in the Mater Hospital, had never entered a ladies day competition before, but wowed in her fuchsia Mary Katranzou jacket and simple white dress.
Completely In surprise, she laughed "My husband said you're not wearing that are you! I can't believe it- I just wanted to go for something timeless."
Millie, wife of rapper Professor Greene, advised fashionistas to "look for something that stands out, and is fashion forward but still shows off your own sense of style."
As was to be expected, impeccable style was evident today at the Curragh race course as the Dubai Duty Free Derby 2014 took place. Just under 25,000 people attended the event.
According to celebrity stylist Courtney Smith those who stand out always embrace their individuality:
She says, "Don't be scared to break the rules. It's not the way it used to be- you can have more fun and experiment a little more."
As for trends: the many ladies who opted for yellow caught our attention, as did those who opted for citrus shades of tangerine and lime.
For these women who spend weeks and months, Carol Kennelly maintains that the fun is mostly in the preparation: "It's lovely to be appreciated. It's great fun putting outfits together."
Best dressed finalist Annmarie Blennerhassett ultimately hits the nail on the head with her advice: "My top tip is just to smile on the big day!"
