The rising mercury and an Indian summer stretching with determination into October are playing havoc with traditional wardrobe choices.

Retailers can only look at the unseasonably cloudless blue skies and wonder: are we going to be left with a glut of coats?

Heading towards Hallowe'en, a number of hard working, transeasonal fashions looks are emerging, with the statement jacket and patent leather ankle boots getting lots of attention because of their sheer flexibility and 24/7 adaptability at a time when the weather doesn't know what it wants to do.

Dundrum Town Centre showcased a number of their key trends at their press day and the strong autumn sunshine for their photoshoot only made those high gleam patent ankle boots look even more appealing.

The secret for these is to find the right cut boot and height for your leg shape. And speaking of statement jackets, a three-quarter length military-style jacket from the Pinko range at Harvey Nichols was an immediate crowd pleaser.

Wide lapels pipped in gold with a flattering, double breasted silhouette, the €678 navy jacket was a stand-out favourite look for the day.

It represents a good wardrobe staple worn with jeans and a polo at weekends, over a shirt and trousers for work but equally as impactful worn here by model Teo with a glamorous Pinko dipped hem, handkerchief-end dress (€621) with pretty fluted sleeve detail and River Island gold sandals (€65).

The ten-fold disparity in prices is a reflection of how shoppers go about their fashion spend now, mixing high end with more affordable high street.

There is an appetite for the fashion purchases that box above their weight in price tag and such is the case of the tan suede coat (€220) from the Therapy brand.

Suede is often viewed as a luxe wardrobe addition but this trench coat certainly looks twice its price, if not more.

For our shoot, it was modelled by Abby and styled over a DVF shirt dress (€467) from BT2 and worn with ankle boots from French Connection (€139) and a Pom Pom scarf (€45.90) from Accessorise, for a punch of colour. The blue dress costs €795 and model Anastacia is wearing it with a petrol blue DKNY jumper (€420) from Harvey Nichols and River Island ankle boots (€100).
