Who needs Paris when you can have Dublin?

Presenter and host of the 2014 Dublin Fashion Festival Angela Scanlon believes Irish women are just as chic as their Parisian counterparts.

"Irish ladies have an innate sense of style," she told the Irish Independent. "Forget Paris."

"We are great at mixing vintage pieces with high-street gems and are very experimental when it comes to dressing up. We take risks.

"I think we used to get a bad rap, but Ireland is producing top designers like Simone Rocha and Danielle Romeril.

"Paris may have Breton stripe jumpers, but we have Aran knits," added the recently-married broadcaster.

Scanlon was speaking at the launch of the annual festival, which runs from September 4-7, with over 250 retailers and restaurants taking part in a chic celebration that includes catwalk shows on Henry Street and Grafton Street.

"I think it's a great chance to get dressed up and showcase your creativity," she said. Scanlon follows in the footsteps of MTV host Laura Whitmore and Amanda Byram, who both previously hosted the festival.

She is currently working on the RTE series 'Angela Scanlon's Naked Truth'.
