Love is in the air as romance brings boost for retailers
Cupid has sparked a nice upward curve in romantic retailing and with eight days to go to St Valentine's Day, business is brisk in the traditional 'loved up' territories of lingerie, jewellery, perfumes, cards and confectionery.
However, retailers are bracing themselves for the bulk of the amorous shopping over the weekend.
Florists have a week of prepping ahead before they start deliveries of bouquets and posies, many containing roses, the favourite flower of Venus, the Roman goddess of love.
Brown Thomas on Grafton Street yesterday hosted a photocall to promote some of their exclusive lingerie lines, including Stella McCartney whose luxurious 'Clara Whispering' chemise (€215) is pictured on Daniella, left, while Teo wore the Isabella robe by Myla (€110).
Lingerie is traditionally a gift for lovers and the holiday is second only to Christmas for card sales.
