We’ve all suffered through those sticky, humid days when you’d still feel overdressed if you left the house naked.

We’re in for one of the hottest weekends of the year as temperatures are set to soar to 27C today, and although the sunny weather will be a welcome change after a week of temperamental showers, it’s set to be very humid.

No one wants to spend their time blotting under-boob sweat and dealing with all the irritating side-effects, so the best remedy is to be strategic with your underwear choices.

While you may have drawers full of stylish silk and lace bras, they’re just not going to cut it on sweltering days.

First of all, it’s essential that your bra is fitted correctly. There’s nothing more uncomfortable than an ill-fitting bra on a sizzling hot day.

Any lingerie store or department should offer to measure you for free, and once you know the right size you can set out in search of functional, breathable bras.

Here’s our pick of the five best bras to stave off boob sweat and keep you cool and comfortable:

1. The cotton bra

In the searing heat, nothing beats cotton. Natural fibres are always preferable in hot weather - the weave of the fabric will keep you cool and dry, as well as wicking away moisture from the body. For ultimate lightness, try this cotton rich t-shirt bra. Bra, €10 at Dunnes Stores

2. The moulded bra

Many women find underwires irritating and uncomfortable on hot days. Soft cup bras are a great alternative, but may not provide enough support for women with larger busts. You’ll find plenty of comfort without sacrificing the support in a moulded bra, which has soft, smooth cups that mimic the shape of your breats. Wacoal How Perfect bra, €61 at Arnotts

3. The non-padded bra

Hot weather is definitely not the time to be wearing heavily padded bras. Thick padding will only make you sweat more, so give it up for a few months and try this pretty floral bra. It offers full coverage, and there’s also a ‘Total Support’ version for ladies with larger busts. The daisy pattern comes in nude or plain white, with a combination of breathable cotton and ornate lace detail. Floral bra, €22 at Marks and Spencer

4. The bralette

These bras tend to be more suitable for women with smaller busts who don’t require as much support. They are particularly useful for wearing under loose-fitting garments, and are particularly good for hot weather days as they don’t have any parts that dig into your skin or feel tight. Calvin Klein’s 90s bralettes were revived last year thanks to Kendall Jenner, and they can’t be beat when it comes to comfort. Bralette, €42 at Topshop

5. The statement bra

If you’re looking for underwear as outerwear, this strappy halter bra is sure to impress. You need to let your skin breathe, so something simple with a racer back cut will keep you feeling cool while you show it off. Bra, €32 at Urban Outfitters
