Fashion file - Darren Kennedy: How to wear... Parka power
We're all aware of the benefits of a structured blazer but for 2015 your spring arsenal calls for a well-appointed parka. This statement coat usually draws on strong military influences however there's a distinct touch of athletic chic to this year's crop.
Mixing durability, practicality and a relaxed aesthetic, there's a clear reason why fashion is clinging on to this precious piece.
The humble parka was given a glittery makeover at Rodarte while Marc by Marc Jacobs presented a dress version with New York based label Rag & Bone going for a cool cropped style. Whether you opt for a fashion forward glammed-up parka or play it safe with a classic, there are a couple of things to keep in mind when shopping.
Choose a parka that is slim cut so as not to add bulk but at the same time it should fit comfortably so you can wear layers if need be. Neutral colours like tan will go with almost any outfit. In terms of length, the most versatile is three-quarter length so ideally it should finish three to four inches above the knee. Wear with a sequined mini skirt and a tee for the perfect dressed-up-dressed-down springtime look. Classic, casual and versatile, a must-have for your 2015 wardrobe.
