Ellie Goulding talks style

We caught up with Ellie Goulding when she was in Dublin this week to talk about all things fashion and style.
How would you describe your sense of style?
I like the androgynous look, I like to wear skinny jeans and brogues, bow ties, tee shirts with rolled up sleeves... But I still love to dress glamourously when I go out and perform- I'm a total magpie when it comes to shiny, sequiny glittery things! I'm a bit of a tomboy with an elegant side.
Who are your fashion icons?
I don't really have a fashion icon- Although I think Chloe Sevigny, Florence Welch, Janelle Monae and Lady Gaga all have a wonderful, unique style.
Who or what inspires your sense of style – magazines, blogs, streetstyle etc?
My stylist Lauren is so on it with trends and tips, she writes her own fashion blog and she takes my own quirks and makes them just that bit more glamorous and special. She also embraces my unmanageable, crazy hair and my (usually) chipped nail varnish, which I love! I think Grazia is perfect for high fashion and high street.
What has been your most stylish moment to date?
I'm not sure, but I recently had really really long purple hair, which I loved.
Have you had any Janet Jackson style wardrobe malfunctions onstage?
I don't have any boobs really, so its hard for anything like that to happen!
What is the most expensive item in your wardrobe?
Possibly my Mulberry Aviator Jacket, its so warm and cuddly and beautiful.
What is your best bargain buy?
I can't remember, but I do know I found some amazing things back in the Charity shops in Hereford, including a lovely brown leather satchel.
What has been your biggest fashion faux pas?
Probably lots of things. My stylist just sent across a picture of me going, "what were you thinking' haha, i was wearing a strange torn up tie die top.
What fashion trend would you never wear?
Never say never!
Who is your favourite designer label?
At the moment, I love Antipodium, and Alice by Temperely. But I adore Mulberry, D&G and Burberry!
What is your favourite high street store?
Topshop, by a mile. Although Urban Outfitters is great too.
Finally, do you have any fashion tips for Irish women?
I don't like it when celebrities and famous people say "Being sexy is a state of mind" Because I don't think its true, I think you should always go out in what you feel comfortable in, but glam it up with a lovely belt or jewellery. I used to wear dresses from Primark, but accessorise with a top shop or urban outfitters belt and jewellery. Bargain outfit!!
