THE crowds are descending on Somerset House for London Fashion Week, but Paul Costelloe is cycling in the opposite direction. The Dublin-born designer is finalising a visa to travel to China.
After years holding down the coveted 'opening show' slot at London Fashion Week (LFW), Costelloe has shifted focus and instead of a big, expensive catwalk show showing Spring-Summer 2014, he's a season ahead. He spent the weekend in Milan, buying fabrics for Autumn Winter 2014 for his 'Dressage' and Paul Costelloe Collection.
Cycling north to Holborn, the designer stops off at his PR's office to give the Irish Independent an exclusive preview of his new spring summer 2014 womenswear collection.
Last season, Paul returned to LFW with a small, low key presentation – but this year, he's off the show calendar.
"It may seem strange, but I don't think this was the right season for me to show. My collection is still very small for spring and it doesn't warrant a show.
"What I've done this season is a smart, chic, understated collection which I believe commercially will be very successful, but until the collection gets bigger, and has more customers, it wouldn't really warrant the cost of a very expensive show."
