Closet Confidential: Elaine Crowley
Elaine Crowley presents Ireland AM with Mark Cagney, Alan Hughes and Aidan Cooney. She also anchors the ever popular Midday. With a penchant for old world glamour and a sense of style all her own, this is one lady's wardrobe I was eager to get inside..
First fashion memory
I remember when I was about five I hid in a press in the bathroom – I didn’t want to go to school because I was made put on a horrible brown corduroy dress with buttons down the front and I HATED it! I was dragged kicking and screaming across the road to school.
Favourite designer label
I absolutely adore D&G. I'm currently in love with a satin suit I recently wore for a photo shoot... it’s my birthday next month so maybe!
Favourite high street store
I really like Warehouse at the moment.
Best bargain buy
I bought a black ballet-length prom dress from Lady Lydia in Kanturk, Co Cork, three years ago and it’s the best piece I ever bought... I've worn it to black-tie balls, weddings, the races, its brilliant because you can dress it up and dress it down, and it’s so easy to accessorise.
Most expensive item in your wardrobe
I'm not sure how much its worth in material terms but a have a Vintage Faux fur cropped jacket that my mother bought about 40 years ago and has passed it on to me. In my eyes it's invaluable.
Top of your wish list
A Couture Tuxedo... I don’t care if its Valentino, Versace or Dolce.
Most stylist moment
Ah, I don’t know, I get it wrong more then I get it right, but I did love my outfit at this year's TV Now Awards. It was a black floor-length ruffled dress from Coco Boutique on Clarendon Street. I always feel uncomfortable at awards ceremonies, but this dress was so easy to wear. It made me feel at ease, and when it comes to confidence in one's outfit, I think that’s half the battle.
Biggest fashion faux pas
Same award ceremony as above, different dress. This time it was a red satin number with far too much going on, and my hair was terrible. One charming designer told me I looked like Frida Kahlo.
Ava Gardner... They don’t make Hollywood icons like they used to!
Era you’d love to have lived in
The 1940s/50's... by far the sexiest but chicest era in fashion I think.
Fashion or style?
I'm either dark and dramatic or a go around like a magpie.. I go from one extreme to the other, depending on my mood.
Finally, what did you have for breakfast this morning!?
Two apples and a cup of tea!
