Nude tones and jet black are the perfect partnership for trans-seasonal dressing. The delicate flesh tones hint at the warmer days of spring ahead, while the accents of black ground it in winter wearability and add strength.

Valentino uses black lace cuffs while Penneys has picked out a sharp collar and buttonfold in monochrome black and white for added interest. Prim collars are big news for the coming season and like a touch of black, they work beautifully on pretty dresses to give a sharper edge.

Valentino has used subtle, strappy nude sandals to create a leg-lengthening illusion. Alternatively, to carry off this look in the depths of January, try dark hosiery and heels. Dainty gold jewellery and a plaited halo of hair add the finishing angelic touch.
