Flowing floor-length dresses are no longer restricted to red carpet events. The maxi dress, thanks to the '70s resurgence, is enjoying a full-on comeback.

In seasons past, the maxi has come in the form of tiered bell shapes for that romantic gypsy vibe or, more recently, body-con jersey. This season, it is bold, billowing and ultra-glam.

Light, ephemeral fabrics work best and thigh-high slits add extra oomph. There'll be plenty of predictable florals around but, for a more offbeat vibe, take inspiration from Marc Jacobs and his printed silks.

Styled with floral corsages, soft frizzy manes and disco diva smouldering eyes, the maxi is suddenly sexy.

As for accessories, a simple clutch and strappy heels are all you need.
