Clever Couture: Marc by Marc Jacobs from catwalk to high street

There is a shift in fashion towards minimalism and innovative tailoring. The past decade has been devoted to re-working classics from the 20th Century, but now there is a general consensus that it is time to move forward.
However, this change will take time and vintage styles can be so incredibly flattering that any designer worth their salt is reluctant to let such popular pieces become obsolete.
Marc Jacobs is certainly one of the most commercially wise designers in existence and the Marc by Marc AW11 collection is bursting with '40s tweeds, printed silks and a general air of classically beautiful nostalgia.
This belted, jade green dress is a perfect example. With its pussy-bow collar, button down front and flared skirt, it could be interpreted as being quite prim.
However, mix it up with some manly socks, tan heeled brogues and a '70s-style wide-brim hat and it's suddenly got a street chic edge. It's all about how you wear it.
