Bum bags are back

No, it’s not a joke. It’s actually quite serious. That "bag", the one nerdy tourists wore in the 90’s or the one you were forced to wear as a kid to house your nominal holiday petty cash, is back.
Bum bags or fanny packs as the Yanks like to call them are back for Spring/Summer 2010. Carrie Bradshaw attempted to make them cool a few years ago but apart from a sleek Gucci version they never really took off. This time the king of the catwalk Marc Jacobs has endorsed them wholeheartedly, so it’s only a matter of time before you see them everywhere.
Ashish embellished his with studs and teamed them with tropical prints and lots of sequins; perfect for adding edge to a Summer dress. Marc Jacobs kept it subtle with candy coloured versions. While Louis Vuitton (also designed by Marc Jacobs) created a deluxe version in embossed leather with tassels and extra pouches. This one is definitely best left to the brave.
While they may still be reminiscent of times you’d rather leave behind, think about how handy they are! No need for a heavy bag hanging off your shoulder anymore. You can ditch the impractical clutch bag that is way too easy to lose anyway. And, it will encourage you to be brutal in your bag “edit” thus helping you avoid bag-induced shoulder pain worthy of a rugby player.
Convinced? Now all you have to do is choose which one.
