I carry all my weight around my middle and I'm slightly disproportionate. What do you suggest I wear to disguise this?

Unfortunately this is a problem that over half of the population experience at some stage in their life, but it is easily disguised with a few simple tricks.

Try structured fabrics that contain some Lycra such as pencil skirts or panelled dresses as these offer great support to your mid section. Warehouse and Oasis are great for structured pieces and work wear.

With tops, avoid clingy material in flimsy fabrics as these tend to be especially unflattering. Instead try a fitted blouse that skims the mid section rather than defines it. Monsoon and A|Wear on the high street have a great selection of starting from €10. Don’t be afraid of colour or pattern just make them bold, a statement print can detract attention by drawing the eye in.

Try high-waisted or empire lines for dresses. This is guaranteed to nip you in in all the right places. If you like your legs then get them out and play to your strengths. A-line styles will also work perfectly, skimming and disguising unwanted baggage.

Choose a mid rise cut when looking for jeans. Avoid low slung styles at all costs, as these will draw direct attention to your mid section and emphasis the dreaded “muffin top”. Oasis have a fantastic style “Scarlet” in classic indigo, black and more casual washes for around €60. They’re definitely worth a look.

Finally, try some detail to distract attention from your torso to your upper body. Add a long scarf or a statement necklace, layer an open shirt or blouse and you’re done.
