COATS are at the centre of the M&S fashion arsenal this season, and the high street chain is lining out serious contenders for winter love.

Their faux fur leopard coat (€120) carries a distinctly luxury feel and is convincingly wrestled away from any Bet Lynch comparison.

A per una wool coat (€310) in winter white may not be the most sensible fashion companion, but there are options both practical and glamorous, like an M&S Collection black wool coat with detachable faux fur collar (€125), a trench in black wool (€125), or the traditional favourite, the navy pea coat (€120).

However, when it comes to coats, the first question on the lips of guests arriving at the Catherine Condell-styled M&S Autumn Winter 2013 fashion show at Dublin's RHA gallery last night was: when is the pink coat coming back into stock?

The M&S Collection €120 pink coat, worn by former supermodel/singer Karen Elson in their 'Leading Ladies' campaign, sold out in record time.

But Carmel Brehony, M&S marketing manager, confirmed last night that more stock of the coveted coat is on its way to Ireland.

After two years of declining clothes sales, M&S would have been crazy to ignore last year's success of their sequinned wool three-quarter length coat.

And it's back this time in a twinkling navy (€140).

Belinda Earl, the former CEO of Jaeger and Debenhams, arrived into M&S as the new style director and took a very shrewd move to increase the company's coat order by 80pc for AW 2013.

She may have sought out advice from meteorologists before she took this decision, but she only had to listen to customers to know they crave a good sleeve.

So for AW13, 85pc of their dresses have sleeves.

And last night, it was the per una Speziale gold sequin maxi dress (€160) that sent hearts fluttering.
