60s Style: Swing into the '60s
Fashion editor Bairbre Power
Cynics in 1967 said the Cockney model would last a couple of weeks but, 44 years later, Twiggy maintains iconic status and there's plenty of the pixie-like glamour around to recreate her look, from Penneys and M&S to Topshop.
Our shoot uses teenage model sensation Thalia Heffernan who, at 16, is the same age as Twiggy (aka Lesley Hornby) was when photographer Barry Lategan first shot her.
Core buys for a 1960s retro fan start with white tights and go-go boots.
We found our thick, opaque look at Topshop and designer boots at Brown Thomas, while this gem, a day-to-night, black-and-white faux-leather dress (right), costs €90 from Warehouse.
As well as popularising minis and hotpants, Mary Quant gave us coloured, patterned tights. Some of the best ones are the M&S star-design hold-ups (€16), perfect for the party season.
And if, like me, you are a stockings and tights girl, be sure to check out the new store 2nd Skin on the ground floor of Powerscourt Townhouse Centre.
One attractive, and hugely comfortable, feature of your Twiggy homage should be low boots with embellished, stubby heels. If you are looking for really cute heels, the River Island black boots with silver heels get my vote.
